Becoming an Egg Donor

Posted .

Have you considered the special gift you could give another women by donating eggs? Egg donors offer a unique opportunity for another woman/couple to experience the pregnancy and birth and are instrumental in helping these grateful families grow. If you are interested in becoming an egg donor, we invite you to speak with our third party team at Utah Fertility Center to become familiar with the process and begin your application.

Ideal candidates for egg donation should meet the following criteria:

– Nonsmoker

– Between the age of 18 and 30

– Body mass index below 30

– No known history of genetic disease

– Generally in good health

All steps of the process will take place at Utah Fertility Center, where you will be treated with top-notch medical care throughout your experience. To determine if you are a qualified egg donor, review your medical history, complete a general physical to gauge your general health and perform few tests, including bloodwork and an ultrasound of your pelvis.

Once you are approved to donate and have been selected by a recipient, you will undergo a stimulation cycle to encourage multiple eggs to mature and synchronize your cycle with that of the recipient. During this time, we will continue to perform regular blood tests and ultrasounds that require several office visits.

When the eggs are fully developed, we will schedule a brief procedure to transvaginally retrieve the eggs, which are then fertilized and incubated for a few days before being transferred into the uterus of the recipient.

The overall process of egg donation can last four to seven months from the submission of your application to the fertilization of the eggs.
